Choosing Light Over Darkness

Rise above...

The other day, I received a message that stopped me in response to a post about how focused and internally motivated I’ve been feeling, a woman sent me a direct message that read: "How can you be so out of touch? Look at the world, look at what’s going on. This is so tone-deaf."

At first, her words stung. But then I paused, reflected, and realised something profound, there is a distinct difference between witnessing and absorbing the world’s chaos.

The world is filled with the noise of news, opinions, and negativity that bombards us from every angle. It’s so easy to get pulled into the vortex of fear, doubt, and anger, especially with the state of global affairs or even struggles in our relationships. But here's the thing, I’ve come to understand that while we must be aware, we must not let that energy consume us.

As a mother, wife, and entrepreneur, I show up every day for my loved ones, my community, and myself. To do that, I need to be a source of light and positivity, not just for them, but for my well-being. And this is where many of us falter whether in our relationships or our relationship with ourselves.

Think about it, how often do we let negativity and external noise fuel our inner doubts? We replay hurtful words, question our worth, and let fear and insecurity dictate our actions. We become trapped in loops of self-doubt, shame, guilt, and resentment. The voices of fear and inadequacy grow louder than the truth of who we are.

In our relationships, this often leads to self-sabotage. We doubt our value, struggle to communicate, and feel we don’t deserve to take up space in the lives of those we love. This fear can make us push others away or worse, push ourselves down.

This self-sabotage doesn’t just affect our connections with others, it affects the connection we have with ourselves. We internalise criticism, negativity, and darkness from the outside world and make it our own, convincing ourselves we don’t deserve love, success, or joy but here’s the truth- you have a choice. I have a choice.

We can choose to observe the darkness without absorbing it. We can choose to stand in our light, to rise above the noise, the fear, the doubt. We can face anger, judgment, and criticism without letting them dim our inner flame. This is a choice we make daily to embody the light and energy we want to see in the world.

I choose to be that light. I choose to show my children, my family, and my community that no matter what is happening around us, we don’t have to let the world’s chaos define our inner peace. We can be aware, we can be informed, but we do not need to be consumed.

In my work at The Wellness Tree, I’ve seen how so many relationship challenges, whether with others or ourselves are rooted in the energy we allow into our lives. We carry the weight of old wounds, limiting beliefs, and judgments without ever pausing to ask ourselves- Is this my truth?

Today I invite you to reflect on what energy are you holding onto that isn’t yours. Where are you letting anger, fear, or doubt take control? And more importantly, how can you choose a different path one that allows you to rise above and radiate the light within you?

We all have the power to choose light over darkness. The world may be loud, but your spirit can be louder. Let’s stop absorbing the negativity and start radiating the love, joy, and strength that’s already within us.

Let’s rise above. Together.
